History
The caroling group was formed spontaneously 10 years ago, on Christmas Eve 2013, when the Doina dance group came to our home to celebrate Christmas Eve together. Since my parents were visiting, we wanted to surprise them with carols, to soothe their homesickness during the holidays, and bring them a piece of Romania and its Christmas traditions. And so, we caroled all evening—for them, for us, for the soul.
As spontaneous as it was, it was so special that we kept the tradition going every year. We’ve gathered to carol at one home or another, and in recent years, we’ve caroled by invitation, about 3–4 days before Christmas. We try to cover as much of Auckland as possible, from south to north and east to west.
It’s a wonderful tradition we aim to keep alive for as long as we can. We have two guitars, a ukulele, drums, bells, lots of good cheer, and our wonderful voices.
If you’d like to join the caroling group or wish to receive carolers, all you need to do is contact me, and we’ll do our best to organize visits to everyone who wants to welcome us into their homes.
Those who welcome carolers don’t need to prepare anything—just warm hearts and good vibes. And if you insist on not letting us leave empty-handed, a nut, an apple, or a pretzel will do.
Will you welcome carolers? 🎶
